Respirtech or Hill-rom?

So I went for my consult today with the inpatient PT about switching up my form of airway clearance. I currently use chest PT, someone comes into my home and beats on me...but its not really working out anymore and I would like my life back. Im not being selfish, I just dont have time to wait around for my PT to come and then have her not show up or not come the required number of times per week. The PT I met with today talked about a lot of different airway clearance and I got to try the Hill-rom and Respirtech vests (and coughed during both). Granted I only used them both for about two minutes, I did not notice much difference. I dont know if the difference would be further down the line after long time usage or what.

He also talked about other airway clearance methods. He showed me the PEP mask, acapella (which I have tried, dont like) and gave me info on autogenic drainage. He wasnt sold on the vest, trying to get me to try all of my options. I think I will be going with the vest, though, its just a matter of which one. For those of you who have one or the other...what do you like about each one? I liked how the respirtech had locking clips for the tubes, but it was a lot noisier (yes I know this is no reason to NOT get it, but) and bigger. He told me about the different waves that are used to generate frequency and that the respirtech has triangular waves. But he said there havent been many studies done to prove one is better than the other. So I am off to search for more information, please let me know your opinions! Thanks! <img src="i/expressions/vest.gif" border="0">

I have never used the Repirtech vest so I can only say how I like my Hill-rom. I love it. It works very well for me. I also have the much older version (the 103 I think - its 8 years old) so the size of the machine is something I do not like. I also don't like that the hoses pop out alot when I am vesting, but I think it may be that I am not sitting close enough to the vest - which brings me to wishig the tubes were longer! Ok I know it sounds like I have a lot of grief with the Hill-Rom but I really do love it I swear!!! I love all the different settings. Really what I like about it is that is WORKS for me.

Best of luck in your research and sorry I couldn't offer any more!!

I LOVE the Respirtech Vest. It works much better for me than the HillRom. I'm currently in the process of fighting with my insurance so that I can keep the Respirtech vest. Wish me luck!

Lili has never tried the Hill Rom. We got her the Respirtech in September and are happy with it. The hoses have clamps so they do not pop out.
