DH, whose a veteran gets irked 'cuz whenever the smoking issue comes up, the news always interviews people who say "I'm a veteran. I fought for this country. I fought for freedom, which includes the right to smoke". <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

Here in Miss, it's up to the cities whether or not they want to ban smoking in public places. Quite a few of the surrounding ones have, but not the one I live in. Here, smoking and non-smoking areas are separated by nothing at all. In fact, I was in Applebee's a few months ago and I was in the non-smoking section, which was about 5 ft away from the bar and there was nothing separating it, but air. There's alot of people around here that have bumper stickers saying, "at least i can still smoke in my car" It makes me wanna ram them.

And you know, I hate to be a control freak, but I hate when people smoke in their own cars too. For a few reasons:
1. Often, people smoke in their cars with kids inside. HELLO.
2. They smoke in their cars, but keep their windows open and hang the damn thing out. If you love it so much, close the windows and keep it in there. Because when I'm behind them in traffic, if my window is open, I get that crap in my own car. Gross.

I have a major problem with people smoking on the streets. The first main reason is obvious, but the second reason is some jerk was being careless with his "flame" and almost burned me!

I did see a tv program where someone invented the "smoke wall"! It was like a ventillation system that blew fresh air directly in a downward direction to isolate the smoke from lingering outside it's perimiter, while it sucked the smoky air up into the ventillation system. It looked pretty effective, but I have no idea what kind of price is involved.

There was also a "test" done in one district in the Osaka city limits. In a one-block area, they banned smoking on the streets and would fine those who didn't follow the law with 1,000 yen (about 10 bucks). I don't know if it was effective, and how much further they're going to expand that area, but it looked like a great idea...keeps all those cigarette butts off the ground, too!
