Ridiculous or Right

My Bible study needs volunteers to work in toddler to preschool classes. I quit my job due to working with special needs children to try to cut down on contracting cold and flu. I feel obligated to help out but I'm a little concerned. I think it will be once or twice a month.

Toddlers do tend to be the "germiest" -- mainly because they haven't learned to cover their mouths when they cough and sneeze, do a lot of nose picking, aren't so good about handwashing. IMO, they are the funnest age group though. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Guess you're the only one who can really gauge how you do when you're around others who might be sick. If you decide to help, just use lots of purell, wash your hands frequently.

My opinion: Toddlers are generally less germy than adults.

If you want to go, you can take some supplements before you go to reduce the risks of catching something, then shower and change clothes right afterwards and irrigate your sinuses. This is how I handle exposures (when I am able -- sometimes I don't have the opportunity to do it this way).

I have been warned to steer clear of toddlers and small childern in general as much as possible. Liza has a point, little kids as darling as they are, tend to be the best at being germ carriers and spreaders for the obvious reasons. They are too young to know how important it is to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing, or how important it is to wash the hands often etc. They also are usually in close contact with other children and the cycle continues.
If it were me, i would not do it ( then again with b.cepacia i catch things real easily), but if your health is good and you feel the benefit ( kids that age are just ADORABLE) outweighs the risks, then go for it.
