Risk vs. quality of life

I am saddened by this. It would makes sense that the younger recipients were do better after tx. Their bodies haven gotten beaten up as long.

I will have to go back & reread it another time because its just tore at my hope regarding a tx which was just starting to get built up thanks to Linsdey & Q.

I realize its not a cure nor a guarantee, but when you are at end stage & there really is not quality of life.....the odds sure look good no matter what they are.

Thank you for sharing it tho!

That is sure interesting and just reminds me even more of why it is SO important to keep our kids wcf healthy. I wish it would specify why the kids don't do as well with transplants as the adults do bc I am really curious.

"But the research will likely lead doctors to push back transplants until patients are adults, when it is less risky. "

Also, I was glad to read that although the outcomes don't seem to be as good for kids, some doctors will still transplant with this in mind:

"Faced with living two more years with new lungs or 2.5 years barely breathing, a C.F. patient is "going to choose to have at least a breathe of life for a short time,"

I suppose I am glad we don't live in a state who feels that kids wcf aren't worth transplanting...I wonder if any/how many kids from Utah have died since 1995 who could have lived longer or better with a new set of lungs? Hopefully none.

I deleted the link after reading the comments. The link is on the Adult site if you want to read it. I did not agree or disagree with the study but I got a weird feeling and don't want to be responsible for making people feel bad here. Sorry about the confusion.
