Running!

Hello everyone!

I'm new here, I've posted maybe twice in the past 3 years. I was diagnosed at 14 and I'm currently 23 years old. Recently, I started long distance running and I am up to 8 miles. I want to do something to get involved with the CF community. I am fighting depression and I think getting involved with something would help a lot. (I realize that running 8 miles is nothing to be depressed about, I know I'm lucky but nonetheless I have trouble being happy)

Any information would be nice.

Have you tried blogging about your running? 8 miles is impressive, especially if you have a moderate mutation or worse. Keep it up! You might be able to show up runsickboyrun.com if you can keep up that distance. ;-)

I recently have started really kicking it up with exercising. I was jogging a 5 K 5-6 days a week. I have slighly injured my hip with a small stress fracture and right now I am just walking it.

I wanted to say that running is a great stress relief.. I have been struggling immensely lately with all the different unanswered questions I have in my life so much, and trying to keep myself from being depressed has become my full time job.

Just wanted to say I think it is great, I don't know exactly what you can get into, but I will keep my eyes open

I have been running/walking/hiking alot in the past Year. My lungs are still crummy but it helps them and helps me not stress as much about CF/Life. I think good exercise is a must in being happy in life.

Hello!

If you are interested in fundraising for the CF community, you could register for a running event (10k, 10 miler, half marathon, etc) and raise $$ by running for Team Boomer or CFF. I love to run -- am about to go run right now, altho I'd rather be in bed at the moment

If you are really loving distance running, you should check into a half marathon or something...I had only run 3 miles straight my entire life before running my first half, and the training guide had my longest training run as 9 miles, which you're already almost there.

Best of luck, and keep up w/ the hard work and running; it's great for our lungs!

Thanks for all the replies so far! My friend and I are actually training for a half marathon in March. After reading some posts I remembered all the things I have to be happy about! I'll definitely check out all those suggestions! I wish I had gotten involved with this community earlier. I can tell there are a lot of amazing people in this forum!

Running is an AWESOME way to keep yourself fit and healthy. It's great to see other runners with CF! It is the BEST way to loosen me up for a more productive cough - I feel so much better after a good run than I do when I use the vest.
