Hi everyone, thanks for replying. Yes, that article is a bit scary. I hope they find out something clear soon, and that it won't be that bad news :/ I am feeling better, after the IVs, and hope to continue feeling good with taking promixin, and hopefully I won't culture C.Malt at my next sputum culture.
Any one else with this bug? And is taking promixin?

Hi there,

I just started culturing SM in the past 6 months or so. I haven't had an exacerbation in 2 years and I just recently had one shortly after showing I had SM. However, I'm not sure that the SM was the problem since Cayston took care of it. But this article is definitely a bit scary being that so many of us culture this bug. My doctor originally told me that it wasn't really anything to worry about, but now it seems that it might be a bit more serious than we thought.

Hi to everyone, I havn't been on the site for awhile (no time) and at Maks last CF appt, her culture shows she has now caught this Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia also. It also scares me, just got the news a couple of days ago. I have read lots of articles on it. I guess no matter what, none of these nasty bugs are good.
I hope to hear more about it, thanks karla

Also, does anyone know if it cause's throat problems? So far I have read that it can cause respertory infections. I don't know if Mak has caught something else, but, she has much more mucous and has been complaining about her throat for weeks. So, she is going back to the pedi tomorrow again about her throat.
Also, she has had blisters in the back of her throat, and a bad H/A. Just didn't know if it is related to the SM or not.

Any knowledge would be very appreciated.

I don't know if it causes throat problems; however, when DS cultured it, he had this weird dry, throat clearing cough which we thought was just a weird habit. Once he started his abx, it went away. So he very well could've had a dry scratchy throat which was causing him to constantly make that sound. I never looked at his throat and he never commented that it was sore.

Thanks Liza,
Katie took Mak to the pedi again and the head pedi that always treats her and knows some things about CF is out all week. So a new man came in, didn't do a strep test and said she needs to see the CF doctors.
She has been on the antibiotics almost 2wks, and she seems to be getting worse. The non stop clearing the throat she has had for yrs, but it sounds worse, and now a productive cough has started, and of course it is Friday.
Blessings to all, karla
