the cafeteria and vending machines are the only thing that keeps the weight on the kids when they get admitted because the food served on the wards is inedible. apparently a protest was held when the health minister went there to promote the new healthy foods. not sure if they got anywhere. the kiosk ladies are fuming too. they have hidden the supply of chocolates and chips somewhere in the hospital so it doesnt get confiscated! <img src="http://forums.vogue.com.au/images/smilies/newsmiles/lol.gif">

Arhh!! PMH have the best hot chips in perth to i sware when ever im in the area i pop in to see my old fav nurses and grab a bag of there chips!!

NO i can't belive that how crap
Did you see in the Sunday times (west australian) that thay said they obtained a meal from Royal Perth Hospital and it contained more fat and salt than McDonalds

Hospital Meal contained McDonald's Big mac
28.4g artery blocking fat 25.5g

1208mg Sodium 846mg

625 Calories 480

it went on to say a Quater pounder has 20g of fat, 690mg of sodium and 460 calories. Grab a McChicken burger and fries with 944mg of sodium and still get more salt in the hospital meal.

I was shocked to read it but they shouldn't remove all those options completly they should just have alternitive optioins for the "unhealthy over weight, or regular diabetics"

All this research in to what we are and arn't eating this generation could be going onto much more important things, we already know what is and isn't good for us we don't need to keep going over it, use the money to find some cure's or treatments for why some of these ppl are in hospital to start with!

Well thats what i think any ways.
I'm sick of seeing 60 minutes, today tonight and a current affairs doing these health food, and diet stories every episode!!

Awwwwww that makes me soooooo angry, my kj used to go to that hospital. But now she goes to the royal childrens in Melbourne. They were at one stage trying to get rid of the mcdonalds that is attached to the building and as you said the hospital food is inedible. for most kids its a treat for having been sick but for kj its a good source of food to make her fat (try too lol) and she loves it. Though she doesnt have it all of the time either.

I hope the c/f foundation in w.a fight this because its just ridiculous!!!!!!!!

yeah i did see that article. its not suprising really. they have to add so much fat into those meals just to make them somewhat edible. all of the hospitals already have healthy options but it seems they want to force these healthy options onto everyone now. the healthy options are even more inedible than the non healthy ones. a friend of the families was in charlies a few months back and she got given one of the healthier meals. guess what is was. cold, unflavoured 2 minute noodles with bits of peas and spam in it. they passed it off as beef noodle salad. what a joke. the only healthy thing about it was that she didnt eat it and lost weight that way hahaha.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>All this research in to what we are and arn't eating this generation could be going onto much more important things, we already know what is and isn't good for us we don't need to keep going over it, use the money to find some cure's or treatments for why some of these ppl are in hospital to start with!</end quote></div>

"The hospital would now stock water, fruit juices, milk and sports drinks as well as fruit, nuts and a healthier range of cakes, muffins and cookies."

Wow, water and fruit, that's sure to pack the pounds on a CF kid <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I hate that the responsibility of people (or parents) has just been absolved. Let's just make no food in the whole world with fat or calories, that'll make everyone happy! (or not).

I reckon a parent of a CF kid should take it to Today Tonight or some equally obnoxious TV show <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

(As a side note, I've stayed in a few hospitals in Brisbane and their food was all excellent. St Andrew's gave me steak (yes, real steak), cut it up for me after my sinus operation, then offered me seconds and I got another steak. The Wesley was also good and gave me extra if I requested it. The only place that wasn't so good was the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital, and that was many years ago so it might have changed.)
