I have a quick question. I have noticed alot of salt crystals on Bennett's head lately when he is sweating. I know this is typical of CF but should he be getting more salt then? I am not sure if you adjust the amount of salt based on that? thanks!!! Paula

CFers (once they're old enough to do for themselves) generally put a lot of salt on their food. I know I do, and I crack jokes with others about that stuff. I even had the periodic table elements sodium and chloride (= salt) tattooed on the top of my right foot this past year. Hah! Allie tells me about how she had to have her own thing of popcorn when she went to movies with Ry because he wanted both goopy butter and LOADS of salt all over his. Allie, given the fact that she has *terrible* taste (!!!), didn't want the salty popcorn. Hehehe. And I still don't see what's so gross about salting pizza!!!!! Pizza + salt = yum.

Either way, yes, CFers usually eat more salt. There is such a thing as salt deficiency, so you have to make up for what Bennett's losing. Since he's losing more than you, he also needs to eat more than you. See what I mean? Once he gets old enough to speak for himself and tell you what he wants, he's likely to be among the group that naturally wants to salt *everything* and salt it to where most people would be disgusted. Let him. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

We were told to add a 1/8 tsp to Jadens formula, so I add a pinch to all her bottles now since she is bigger and still salt everything she eats.

Cfer popcorn = gross

It's really normal for them to take on the texture of a saltine after they get hot, or work out,or anything that makes them sweat. Don't panic about it, just add the salt to the fat. Basically anything that would kill a heart patient is great for Cfers. And invest in an extra salt shaker, because you won't believe what they will salt. Pizza, steak, vegetables...heck, once I caught Ry just eating rock salt...I wouldn't surprised if he salted pudding. Just another weird Cf thing, no need to be alarmed.

I don't put a lot of salt on my food but during summer, I often take salt tablets that you can get at the chemist. They are usually taken by people who are out in the sun working long hours, such as construction workers, but I find I really need them especially after sport!

When Austin was little we gave him his own little shaker of salt and let him go crazy with it. Sometimes he would just open his mouth an pour some in...hehehe He was so cute!

After a day at work, no matter if I felt I was sweating or not, I always have little salt crystals on my brows, forehead and around my lips. It's irritating but I'm used to it.

You can also get salt tablets at the drug store. Having enough salt is so, so, so important. I had a seizure once when I was a small child because I sweated most of the salt out of my body on a hot summer day when I was being very active. So, I would suggest extra salt on foods and also salt tablets. Ask your docs.
