Salt Usage for child under one

Hello,

I was just wondering if any of you have been advised on adding salt to your child's food or bottle and if so how much? Thanks.

I was never advised by anyone to add salt to my daughter's food or bottle when she was a baby. Now that she is 2, I feed her salty snacks (For example: pretzels, salted crackers, cucumber and salt, etc)

We were advised to add it to both when our daughter was a baby, but only about 1/4 teaspoon per day. So, rather than measuring, we just sprinkled a little in each bottle and a little on babyfood. Our doc said that if we went over it wasn't going to hurt her because she needed the salt. Also, because we only added a little to her bottle, she didn't even notice.

Sorry for the silly question but why do CF'ers need salt? I was told to add salt to all my foods. I just started seeing my CF dr 2 years ago, so I'm still in the learning mode. 35w/cf diagnost at 30.

Cf patients loose salt much more than the average person....especiallyy in the summer. That is how they can diagnose CF with a sweat test...moer salt in the sweat = CF

To be a little more specific... CFers lose 10 times as much salt as "healthy" people (this is, of course, not an exact number). The main reason you can lose more in the summer, is simply that you tend to sweat more in the summer. But all as I was growing up and ever since, I've had a huge craving for salt, and salt just about everything. So I've never run into a salt issue, really. I have always been able to make up for it.

We were advised to add 1/8 teaspoon of salt to our daughters bottles until they were 1 year old, then were told to stop as they would be getting enough salt from the foods they ate.

we were told 1/4 to their bottles also. I always give them a little more just in case they dont finish a couple bottles ect....

Hiya, I was told to salt up my toddlers food really well right from when he started on solids.
Now he loves Potatoe chips and anything salty so I guess like the others he just craves what his body needs.
