So is it better for a person with CF to be near salt water? I have heard various opinions on this, also humidity. We live in OHio right now and we might be moving to Florida. Anyone have any thoughts on humidity, saltwater ect..... We have humidity here but it is only nice a few months out of the year so would it be a difference down there??

Also if anyone lives there I would love to hear about the CF center down there...

Thanks alot!!

Humidity kills me. My breathing and lungs act up when its humid out. I survive better in the fall/winter when the temps are cooler.

I heard (it might be a myth, i don't know) that the way they discovered the benefits of hypertonic sailine is they noticed surfers with CF had generally better health than others because they were near the ocean all the time.

We live in Fl., Jacksonville. We have a CF center here at Nemours Childrens Clinic, right across the street from Wolfson Children's Hospital (part of Baptist Medical). They are all wonderful. We love Zoe's CF dr.s and her care has been great so far. Granted we are new to this also, she was diagnosed last year. But in that year, she went from not even being on the growth charts to being 50% in height, 28% in weight. Whenever she is sick, they see her and take care of it. As far as the humidity, don't really know about that, we have a swimming pool, so if we are outside, we are swimming. Other than that, in the summer most of the time we are in airconditioning (thus no humidity). And yes, the earlier statement about surfers with CF seeming to do better, I also heard that to be true. There is one young man in our area that discovered he was better after surfing all day, so he moved to the beach and even got a job on a boat! Hope this helps! Jada

surfing is just all around great exercise, the cardio is amazing. so it's not just because the cf surfers are near salt water, but the fact that they are working their bodies and lungs really hard.
