Saying goodbye to my beloved dog

I am so sorry you are going through this. As everyone else said, only you & ur mom can make this decision. Also as AnD said, you know him and will know when its his time.

I understand what it is like to have a pet that means the world to you. I have a cat (15yrs old) that I love to pieces. She got really sick (not eating or drinking, loosing weight, depressed, withdrawn...totally opposite of what she normally is) a while back (due to what we found out was a slightly enlarged heart). I was so afraid I was going to loose her. I sat by that cat like a mama with her baby. I knew in my heart that couldnt give up on her. DH and mom told me to be ready for the worse. But I just knew it wasnt her time. I did pray for God's will to be done (I know, prayers for a pet seems silly, but in my eyes she is my child), show me what to do and I will except the outcome. I took care of her, gave her tons of love and affection (in case goodbye was the answer I would have no regrets) and I waited to see what would happen. Fortunately, in this case, she got better.

You know your pet, listen to your heart, pray about it if you need to, and you will know what to do.

Good luck. Please keep us updated. (((Hugs)))

I am so sorry about this my husband and I are huge dog lovers and had 3 of our own until last year when our oldest dog went down hill very very fast. We took him home with us the first night after the tests and then the next night to say goodbye. We let him sleep in our bed (we are talking a 165lb dog here so yes that is a special thing) hand fed him any people food he was willing to eat (tapioca pudding mostly) talked with him and made our peace and then took him back the next day.

It is NOT so silly. Putting our dog down was the hardest thing I had been through, ever, my grandfather died in my arms and it was harder than that because you have to be the one to make the choice of when it is time and you cant ask them if it is the right decision. In the end I believe only you know your dog and you will know when it is right, you have to guard yoruself to make sure you are not prologning his time beyond what is good for him so that it is good for you but I know the feeling that you dont want to 'give up' on them either.

I am very sorry you are going through this it is such a hard thing. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat. One thing I did afterward is blogged on my regular blog about it, a very very long blog and it helped alot.

I'm so sorry you are going thru this. Its tough, any animal lover knows it's almost like losing a child. I agree with spending as much time as you can with him now, he will let you know when its time. I've had several pets i had to make that horrible decision about and it broke my heart to pieces every time. It will become obvious when he is ready to go, and when that does happen just keep in mind ....he spent his whole life with people who loved him so much and he couldnt have had a better life. **HUGGS**
