Scared and Confused

Thank you all so much for replying. I haven't noticed anything strange or different with his stools and he doesn't taste salty to me but I know that everyone presents with different symptoms so just because he hasn't had these issues doesn't mean he doesn't have CF. He's very pale, which I know isn't indicitive of anything, but it's one of the things I've noticed about him. He just doesn't look "healthy" like my daughter does. I just can't wait to get this sweat test done and to get some results. I think the waiting is torture. Is the sweat test typically conclusive? Our peditrician and pulmonologist feel that he doesn't have CF but want to do the test to "rule it out".

Unfortunately, sweat tests aren't necessarily conclusive. Especially with teeny tiny babies. They're indicative of CF if they show high levels; however, there are several individuals on this site who've had low sweat test results, yet genetic tests have shown they have CF.

He had a bad cough but it improved a lot with pulmocort through the nebulizer. Before we used that though, yes, he did seem to have a persistent cough. I've never noticed anything out of the ordinary with his stools though.

When you say "so far no CF", is there a possiblity she will test positive for it at some later stage?

So if a sweat test isn't 100% why don't they just order the genetic test to start with? Should we be pushing for that instead?

comprehensive genetic testing is expensive. Panel testing is not that bad but it will not rule out CF b/c it only tests for a handful of most common mutations.

They do sweat test b/c if it is positive, CF diagnosis is confirmed and there is no need to test further for CF.
