My name is Vanessa and im 20 years old with CF . When i was born i had a g tube and a colostamy done and i was left with two really bad scars on my stomach... I also have two smaller scars on my abdomine from having hernia surgery.. I feel kinda bad sometimes because when my husband and I go to the beach i see other girls wearing two pieces and i cant. Or sometimes we go shopping and i cant wear certain shirts cause they show my scars and im not talking about small scars. I mean i like my scars in a way cause their a part of me and they tell a story. But then the other side of me wishes to have a normal body with no scars ...My mom has offered to pay for reconstructive surgery but i dont know if i should keep my body the way it is or have surgery? Is their any others with scars and how do they affect you? What would you do in my situation?

Why can't you wear a two piece bathingsuit? I've got two surgical scars and a port and I wear two piece suits all the time.

Right on Emily. I have two prominent scars on my stomach from meconium illeus and an ileostomy bag, plus a peg. I wear two pieces and don't feel embarassed at all. I f someone asks me about the scars, I think its a good chance to explain a little about CF.

I say if its something YOU really really want then do it. If it were me in that situation I wouldnt. I am very body self consious and have scars and a port. I still like my scars...weird....I thought about trying that cream once to see if it will make them start disappearing but decided against it....I call my scars my war medals. Its what I have to show for all that I have endured so far and will. Like Col said it gives me the opputunity to spread cf awareness too in an odd way. I wear a two peice bathing suit anyway....completely shows my scars and port. I have had people stare....at first i think they are staring at the scars...but the hubby says they stare cus im hot...lol whatever...anyway who knows why they stare, some people just like to stare at anyone... So just cus someone is looking doesnt mean they are looking at the scars. Also if your married...your husband loves you no matter what you look like right? This is something I have to over come my self cus "I" dont feel pretty or sexy but he finds me very much so.... and thats a comfort, and whats even more of a comfort is I dont have to impress anyone...I alreayd have him and he is all that counts. No need to impress him unless I feel like it, and he wont care either way... I find him feeling my scars and port alot. He knows its a part of me and thats how he treats it. (not in a gross way if your thinking dirty) ...Your scars are a part of you...you can either keep them or not...Its your choice and I just wanted to share mine.

And you know what screw whoever stares im gonna go and buy me a 2 piece lol!! And im gonna show the world and prove too myself i am confident... To tell yall the truth the only one who thinks my scars are ugly is my dad when he sees them he makes a face and says Man We need to fix that!!!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0"> But i try not to listen to him he has problems and hes an alcholic hes never really been their for me so i ignore him but i still cant help but love him!!!<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

Next time your dad tells you that, say: *BLOWS BIG FAT RASPBERRY* pppffftttttt!!!

I like my scars, as Amanda said, it's like battle wounds. Be proud. Mwaha. It shows a little bit of who you are and what you've gone through. What you've endured and kept on going in spite of... And also, I've said this before. My boyfriend personally likes mine because they tell a little bit of who I am, my life, my past, etc. And because they're unique and part of what makes me... me.

So wear a two piece, show those scars, and be proud to be different than everyone else!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

uhhh im new at his so i make mistakes posting stuff lol im computer retarded!! Ill be sure to tell my dad that next time lol !! Its so great to be able to get support from other who have CF like me it really lifts my spirit !! It makes me feel not so alone and more confident ! Thannkyou guys!!!

Oh yeah i almost forgot does any of yalls scars hurt sumtimes? Sometimes the scar where i had my g-tube hurts when i do my vest or if i dance too much... is that common?

I don't wear 2pieces because I have a g-tube (or mic-key button) and it is not very attractive. 2 years ago I went to spain and I wore a bikini but I covered the thing with a big plaster. It looked awful because it stuck out and ppl kept asking me "did u hurt your bellie?" I felt the stares and heard the whispers. I think I'll stick to a one piece this year. (I have a port scar but its practically invisible), I have a real slim figure but I just don't have the confidence to out like you guys with my 'beautiful' tube popping out. Shamrock, x

When people stare at me, I stare back until they get uncomfortable and look away. It's fun. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I have scars all over the place, not just from CF stuff, but also from being a bit of a daredevil and injuring myself as well as stretch marks from pregnancy. I just wear what I want to wear. Lots of my scars show when I wear tank tops (I usually keep my midriff covered because that's how I feel comfortable) In fact, there's a photo in our family album of me wearing a skimpy outfit and I've actually painted my scars to highlight them. The photo is for me to remember them.I find them an interesting conversation starter. Especially when I hair was buzzed or just really short and your could see the sinus surgery scar over the top of my head. It's been interesting how many people came up and said, hey I've got a scar like that! HA!

think of Anastacia (the singer): she has a big scar, but does wear low cut jeans and short tops nevertheless!
