The science fair at the school is coming up. Last year we did a volcano, in fact I think I've made about 3 volcanoes for science projects between the two kids...So I am happy to not be making a volcano this year.
I have a book of science projects, so Maggie and I were looking through them; she was having trouble picking one out; she couldn't grasp the concept until we came to something to do with enzymes. She got really excited when I said we could do somthing about how enzymes digest food. All of a sudden she completely understood. SO the title of the project is "How pancreatic enzymes Digest food"...I thought it would be more educational than a real experiment. We could label food into categories of fats, protein, and carbohydrates and explain how the pancreas excretes enzymes to digest these foods. Maggie wanted to bring her own enzymes and show how may she needs to take to digest particular foods. SHe liked my idea of having a simple carbohydrate(or simple sugar) that needs NO enzymes like jelly beans or gummy bears to sample. Any other thoughts of what I could add to the project. I want it to be her project she can explain since she is a first grader....She's been feeling under the weather so hopefully she will actually be able to participate if her health can cooperate Any thoughts??? Of course my husband is the real scientist and is already saying we could do an experiment about the whole enzyme thing but I want this to be about what she understands not us
