Today Sean is 10! This is big for me because when Sean was first diagnosed @ 12 weeks old we were told he had PA. The Docs were very tight lipped about what that meant as far as Sean's long term prognosis except for one of the residents. He's the one who very callously told me about PA and then explained that it was one of the more severe CF bugs and that it would shorten his life expectancy. Because the Docs were so tight lipped, I did my own research. At the time the average age for CFers to culture PA was in their early twenties with the average life expectancy of 30. Doing the math I deduced that generally speaking once PA had been cultured a patient lived roughly 10 years.
I never mentioned it to anyone but in my head, that's how long I gave Sean. Fortunately, I was wrong. Treatments have come so far for PA and other bugs that I'd nearly forgotten about my doomsday calculation unitl today.
Sean has brought so much to my life. I've learned so much from him and he has made me a stronger person.
Happy 10th Birthday, Sean (aka Pooh Bear, Scooby, Little Man)
