I will see if this works for me tonight, I'm thinking back to the
mucus I have gotten rid of mostly when sick or what little I do get
rid of on a weekly basis and I noticed something looking at it
looking in a kleenex my mucus is "sticky" it seems to
contain "strings" that remind me of the tiny rubber bands
I used to have with braces. These "strings" I
am leaving on the kleenex (?) are clear in color and seem able
to hold portions of the kleenex together. When I pull
they stretch very like a thin broken rubber band between your
fingers. I have touched several of these and they are fairly
strong and not particularly slimy. These "strings"
might be since the new meds, but I "think" these are
preexisting just hard to notice unless you really look.

The stuff I get out of my nose/sinuses is either clear or yellow,
or sometimes tinged with blood. What little I am able to
bring up other then when sick is very frothy, contains considerable
bubbles and it has these strings. These "Strings might
explain why my bronchi feel as if it is stuck together so
often?

Does stuff I bring up when sick count? If so then think
moderately think pea soup except slimy...whether that is thick or
normal I don't know . I really need an analogy here

When I say "normal" I don't mean totally normal but closer to normal than a CFers mucus would be, thin is if it was Immotile Cylia Syndrome the mucus would eventually get thicker than normal beacuse it just sits there and doesn't get moved much, and I'm sure any CFer here will tell you when we're sick, Oh My! It will usually get more clumpy and greeny because of the bacteria over growth. If when you are even sick and all it is is a little thicker and stickier but still white, trust me, if you do have CF you are very lucky for it to only be at that level with your age! So i wouldn't panic just yet, maybe somehow get your Doc to prescribe a nebuliser for you and have you on the treatments more regular and also maybe try going for some chest physiotherapy just to see if it would help you losen the mucus and get it up which should free up your breathing some after a while, maybe even right away. Just a few suggestions to try to see if it helps you feel better. Did you get the x-ray back yet?

To clarify a bit, when I'm sick the mucus is yellow or green as
previously mentioned in this thread oh so long ago...and the stuff
coming from my nose right now is a combination of colors.
What are clear are these odds "Strings" I seem to
have in my saliva and mucus.

My mucus seems to be well almost glue like, it clumps up very very
easily and I just keep producing it and saliva rather constantly.
Excessive saliva and post-nasal drip are a really annoying
combination that I contend with on pretty much a daily basis.

Warning "icky" stuff ahead

Unfortunately I've had two nose bleeds this week so I'm not really
trying any new coughing ideas right this moment for obvious
reasons. I used to get them a lot more when I was younger but
I'm rather used to them. The possible good news is my bad
colds have always ended with several nose bleeds and finally a
rather disgusting ball of blood and mucus that gets pulled up
and out through my nose or mouth. It is usually attached to a
really long string of mucus...so maybe the fact that I'm having
nose bleeds again (didn't happen after the last few colds) is
actually a good sign...maybe getting nebulized got whatever crazy
process my body seems to favor working again...my nose has been
clogged on both sides for the longest time and now I'm back to
being able to breathe through the right nostril again...strange as
it seems I'm almost hoping for a nose bleed on the left side that
might just clear that one too. Its really messed up to be
half wanting nose bleeds.
Went back to doc yesterday. Not a very productive appointment <sigh> although what I found yesterday (following a useful discussion the other day here ) helped. I had been feelign like I was coming down with yet another cold and went looking for a new solution to try. I've always avoided the nasal spray stuff because of the dangers of rebound I've heard so much about. I found a sinus cleanser that claimed to get rid of post nasal drip and I do believe it did me some good. I guess thats pretty much proof my sore throat was from dripping mucus cause it went away instantly. I actually spent several hours without gunk trying to drip down my throat which was a vast improvement...of course I almost gave myself an ear problem but I think that is because this is the first time I have ever done this and I didn;t realive just how careful you ahve to be about blowing your nose gently right after. It was a purified salt solution combined with water using a neti cup and it pretty much rained a lot of the icky stuff out.

The doc is now talking sinus x-rays but of course we didn't do any and possibley a culture, of course even she is talking about my needing insurance...but then I'm TRYING to solve that one.

She did give me nasonex and more advair, says my lungs sound a lot better I'd just like to know why I'm still congested then ?

Too the person who tried to private message me...you might wish to turn your recieve private message settings to on I tried to respond to you and it told me you were not recieving, feel free to send me another message once this has changed

i can tell you this i tested out at 59 on a sweat test but for the first 3 yrs of my life i was in and out of the hospital. I got pnemonia in the bottom of my lungs at 22 and then they opted to test me for hiv which clearly poed me off cause at the time i had been with one man my entire life in that manner, So i am a carrier with syptoms of mild c.f and my 7 yr old son is tested out as well as 59 on a sweat test and he is symptomatic with his lungs as well but my 4 yr old is a c.fer he tested 109 on the sweat and has severe gastro issues but almost none lung issues thank god. Now the interesting thing here is when they did the blood work on my 7 yr old son for the c.f gene test they told me he has a full gene and a mutating gene thats not fully mutated so he has to be tested every yr . Now thats science for you. Just thought this would be a very interesting read just wonder if anyone else has had these same things happen. you need to be tested for c.f it sounds like you a symptomatic carrier or a postive c.fer so the sooner you know the better for care purposes

Doing my best to stay in a possitive mood and mostly succeding, although as a few of you know I do have a maudlin side..sorry about that. I know I'm better off then many of you and I feel guilty about being a bit needy sometimes, but well this is all still so new to me...at least as something other then idle wondering long, long ago.

I am cautiously optimistic on the insurance front, found a second job that is willing to insure me in exchange for as little as 12 hours of work...the pay is really awful, I'm trying to negotiate better pay with them since I have prior work experiance in the field and its a 90 day probabtion before I can get insurance

3 months to get any kind of testing done...anyone have a fast forward button for the real world...this once I really want to use it...lol

I'm out of the 500/50 advair and now on the 250/50 dose the doctor gave me, its helping some but I want another nebulizer treatment or better yet my very own nebulizer badly. I'm also still doing the sinucleanse and as usuual everything helps some but nothing helps all the way.

The combination of saliva overload and the sticky gunk trying to go down my throat have been bugging me all week...nothing like trying not to gross out your husband, friends and co-workers I tried to take a digital photo of the "Strings" so far I only got one photo and it doesn't really look like the real life version at all.

I looked up stringy, sticky saliva on the internet and its supposed to go with dry mouth...I have the opposite problem...ahhhh.
