Second Opinion Doc?

Hey. I was just wondering if anybody could recommend a good CF doctor in Georgia or South Carolina? I have went down pretty fast in the last 2 months and I feel like my doctor does not know what to do. (I do love him to death though--having a little second opinion guilt.). The CF center I go to has an excellent peds department but the adult center is just now getting everything together. They have not tried me on any new inhaled abx or steroids and I feel like I am just sitting here getting worse. I hear of great responses to non-traditional inhalation of iv meds but my doctors have never even suggested this. Any advice would be great. The centers I am considering going to are Atlanta, Columbia, Charleston, or UNC.

I don't live in that area so I won't be any help finding a doc but I want to suggest that YOU bring up your thoughts with the current doctor. You are the one in charge of your care not them. It is perfectly fine for you to suggest treatment options. You stated your problems very well in your post, I would do the same with the doctors. Good luck and I hope you get to feeling better soon.

i go to UNC and LOVELOVELOVE it. can't say enough good things. i'm not sure where you are but it could be a really long drive to get there....another girl on this forum JennifersHope goes to a center in SC i believe, not sure which one though, but maybe she'll chime in on this....and as Jessi said, try talking to your docs as well, i've found that when i approach them about trying something new they appreciate my input and involvement even if they don't end up putting me on the new drug or whatever. good lukc though! hope you get to feeling better soon!

I used to live in Atlanta and went to the clinic at Emory Hospital/Egleston. It was a pediatric clinic, though, and I'm not sure if they also have an adult clinic as well. I do know that I went there at 22, so they aren't strict about age limits. The doctor was very nice but the clinic didn't know much about up to date treatments, etc., especially when it came to airway clearance. They were hardcore chest PT advocates. Emory Hospital in general is great, though...and the awesome thing was that the CF center had its own building so no worries about contracting some other problem from being in a hospital.
