Hi everyone! I wanted to suggest this because of a few problems we've had in the last week or so.
I heard about some guy who posed as julie, and that was right before some freak got into the adminastritave section and banned at least two people. And before both of those, someone was trying to bring up the horse guy again.
Could it be the same person?
I'd like to suggest deleting the anonymous users feature.
Thanks!

PS even worse, could the horse guy be doing it?

I think the 'deleting the anonymous users feature' was brought up a while ago and it was vetoed by the admins.
You never know though, they might change their minds. =/

There must be a better way. People dont want to put their real names.....I understand that. However a user name of some sort should be required. It might intefer with those who log in from different spots, but maybe a little inconvenience is worth a whole lot of trouble. It just seems that with todays programs available something can be done to ease the confusion of which anonymous is who & crack down on those trying to cause problems.

yeah, I think anonymity shouldn't be allowed. I mean, think: if someone was banned, they could get back on as anonymous(of course, if they were banned from that then that would be the end of it). Still, I think security measures should be taken as soon as possible, to avoid any further trouble. I agree with you, Immortal Godezz, I think it might be the same guy. The question is, who is it? It could either be a registered user, or it could be some jerk who just randomly picked us. Probably it's a registered user, and one that's been on a long time, because he knew about the horse guy. I think that happened quite a while ago, so it's probably a registered user. Anonymous ones wouldn't stay on that long, would they?
Ah well, I just think anonymity should be stopped, because that way, if anyone tries to cause trouble, like that guy posing as julie, and the other guy, then we could crack down on them immediatly, and stop such a thing from happening.

I said it could possibly be not that I'm for certain.
Anyway it was a while ago, that rideronahorse, or something like that.
Spammed the board numerous times.
Something like that.

Wait, Do you mean Rider on the White Horse? =-) Ha ha, if that's who you mean, no, I doubt it's him. He was annoying because he kept pushing his religion in everyone's face, but I think he was just a little over-zealous. If he was going to screw with the boards the worst he'd do is plaster Jesus messages all over the place.

Anyway, I'm sure the administrators will take care of it. I'm sure it's probably a crime to be doing whatever the hacker is doing, and it won't be long before he/she is caught.

As far as deleting the annon. user feature... the thing is, we're pretty much the only CF site that has that. I know people can get a screen name and still remian annonymous, but every once in a while, someone comes along who, for whatever reason, is so embarrassed, they don't even want to risk getting a screen name. I've also noticed a lot of newcomers will post anonymously the first few times, getting a feel for the group before they decide to take that big commitment into filling out the registration. =-) It doesn't really seem like it should make a difference, i know, but it does. So, there is a little good that comes from having the annonymous option, and as far as I'm concerned, that's reason enough to keep it. =-)

Oh believe me, it is a crime to do what he did, I'm sure of it. But I agree with you Mockingbird, I think the horse guy was just a little overzealous. Tried to share his religion, and ended up tripping and falling and scattering it all over the board. But you're probably right, he didn't seem like the kind of guy who'd do that. Besides, we'd probably better stop bringing up rideronthewhitehorse, because I don't think the Admin likes the subject. Which I don't blame him for, seeing as how rideronthewhitehorse was somewhat of a problem.
Mind you, I only say, "somewhat", of a problem.

Plus, there's other reasons for posting anonymously, like people like that posing-as-julie freak, who don't want to be reckognized.
Say, I think I may be onto something! You know how julie said that people from the other website were really mad at her? Well, maybe this is their extended revenge?<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">

Anyone know what happened to the thread from yesterday? (julie's one). I hope it wasn't deleted. I didn't think the mods here were censorship nazis but maybe I was wrong?

No it was moved to the off topic place! I believe that Rider on the white horse guy is back but under a different name, but since he isnt causing any trouble, or stirring things, I think its safe to say, we're ok! I dont think he did that 'father is an idiot' stuff though, but im not sure if he posed as other people.

Yeah, I've been getting the feeling he's back lately, too. =-) Not causing problems though, just back as a regular poster.

In regards to some of the questions and concerns that have been brought up lately:

We found out there wasn't a security breach in the administrative section of the forums, the problems arising were due to the fact that our database was growing too large and couldn't handle the load.

As far as the "your father is an idiot" banning message, that was being caused by the database problems as well. When a user is banned a reason must be entered as to why the user was banned. It just so happened a user ages ago had made a comment about somebodies father being an idiot and was banned for that reason. With the database errors that were occuring sometimes it would cause the forums to think a user was banned when they actually were not.

Since then we have upgraded the forums to a new database which can handle the load and then some.

Our database administrators did a great job in upgrading the database and tracing the route of the problem and for the past week and half the forums have been running smoothly.

You're right on the money, Rider has returned under the guise of the very person who started this thread "Aragorn". The mods have been watching very closely since he had mentioned his name a few times and with a bit of investigating we were able to see that it was him.

Not to worry, he has been banned and warned (yet again). He was not the cause of the problems that arouse a couple weeks ago, though he was trying to hint at it to stir up controversy.

We'll keep doing our best to keep the boards clean.

I'm not sure he should have been banned... At least, I didn't see him causing the problems he did the last time. I know he had a big passive aggressive thing going on, trying to get people to talk bad about him, but I think it might have been okay to give him another chance, as long as he didn't get too out of hand... Ha ha, but maybe he was up to something again, who knows. =-)

Anyway, like Julie said a while ago, you guys have been doing a good job and we all appreciate it. =-)

He was trying to stir up controversy in a subtle way and it would have soon lead to more of his antics. He was given numerous opportunities in the past and decided not to heed any of the warnings.
