Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've posted over here, and well it's just been a rough year to be honest. We became pregnant last year on our own, and unfortunately miscarried. After not trying for a while we've decided we are ready again. We were referred to a RE and are going next week. My GYN mentioned IUI to assist us in pregnancy.

So I was wondering if anyone had any advice or words of wisdom upon embarking on this next step. Thanks so much! We're excited, yet nervous too

Jess,
I don't have much advice, but wanted to wish you good luck!!! I have been hoping to hear that you were pregnant since I know how much you want to be a mommy!!!

I know several CF women had successful IUIs as that bypassed the thick cervical mucous. I unfortunately had to do IVF to conceive, but I am glad I did or else I'd wonder if I could have done more.

Please update as you can and we are all here to support you and cheer you on

Hi Jess,

Good luck to you! I had a lot of luck with IUI and got pregnant on try #2, so hopefully you will be happy with the choice of going to an RE. Keep us posted

I had an IUI with my second...made getting pregnant much easier! I guess I am very fertile after you bypass all of that thick CF mucus. I got pregnant the first try, but miscarried at 6 weeks. A month later I got pregnant again on the first try and now have a beautiful 2 year old daughter!

Lots of prayers being sent your way!

Hey Jess!

First (((HUGS)))

You know my story but I will write it again in case others are reading and do not know.

We got pg on our honeymoon. WOW! I never thought it would happen on its own. I was on oral abx at the time. We honeymooned in Hawaii, maybe it was all of that super fresh pineapple. Sadly I miscarried that pregnancy at 12 weeks.

We went on to try again. After 12 months of trying with no success my OB/GYN sent us to the RE. A HSG test was done. My tubes were clear. I ovulated the next day and two weeks later we got the + pg test. They say you are more fertile after an HSG as it can open things up a bit more. Alexa Brooke was born 9 months later.

After having Alexa we never prevented pregnancy. I breastfed for 12 months, which can decrease fertility. We never really tried but never avoided. Just before Alexa's 2nd birthday I decided to make an appt with the RE we saw when trying to get pg with Alexa. I figured it would take a long time to get an appt and I wanted to get the ball rolling. My PFT's were back in the mid 80's. I felt if we wanted another baby it was time.

To my suprise we were able to get an appt. right away because we were still considered existing patients. We saw the RE the following week. We laid out the plan. Unmedicated IUI for a few months. RE wanted to avoid meds if at all possible as to not increase the risk of mulitples. He also said it was my body and our choice, we could go for medicated cycles when we wanted. I was due to ovulate the follow week so we were given instruction what to do once I got a + on the at home ovulation test. I got the + and off we were for DH to give his sample and then have the IUI done.

We got pg with Hannah Katelyn that cycle!

Like Christina said, my OB/GYN said I most be a fertile mertile once the thick mucus if bypassed!

Best of luck to you Jess. I am here whenever you need.

Hi Jess!

I will keep you and your husband in my prayers while you start this journey.

I just wanted to say to not give up or get frustrated (which is way easier said than done). When I went through the process, it started getting really hard for me because it seemed like it only took one or two tries for most people for an IUI to work. I didn't ever get pregnant until my 6th attempt (I did natural (once), oral meds(twice), and injections(three times)). I did accupuncture too. I really started to think it was never going to work and it was pretty hard to stay positive at times. I think by the last IUI I had come to terms with the fact that it might not work and I would be ok. Go figure that's the one that finally worked!

At the beginning of the process, I did have an HSG to check my fallopian tubes (which were clear). From that test, they found quite a few uterine polyps that I then had surgery to remove before starting any treatments...

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!!!!!

I think you know my story, but I will recap. MH and I TTC for 8 cycles before beginning IUI. All 8 cycles I used OPKs, charted, took mucinex, and used preseed. I was ovulating regularly, but we didn't get pregnant. The RE had me get some bloodwork on cycle day 3 to check my hormones, and I had to have an HSG. My husband had a semen analysis. Everything came back normal, so the RE recommended unmedicated IUI. He said that he usually had people come in for IUI when the got a positive OPK, but I was having trouble with OPKs, so I went in to have my folicles monitored and he trigged them with an HCG shot (forced them to release the egg) once one was large enough to be ready to be "ripe." We did this twice and I didn't get pregnant.

So, then he suggested we add clomid. I was terrified of having multiples and this was a hard decision for me, but we decided to go ahead. It turned out that I only got one follicle on clomid, so there wasn't much of a risk of multiples. We got pregnant the first time we tried IUI + clomid, but I had an early miscarriage.

After that, we tried two more times, but I kept ovulating so early that, by the time I was monitored, I had already ovulated and it was too late to do an IUI. The third time, my RE had me come in on cycle day 9 for monitoring so we wouldn't miss it, and I got pregnant with Lillian!

Best of luck to you Jess. I am really pulling for you and I hope the RE is able to help you out (and quickly). It is an emotionally exhausting road to go down, but sooooo worth it. The best advice I think I have is to seek out other people who are going through infertility treatments - for me, it seemed like everyone I knew in real life got pregnant without blinking, and I felt like a complete freak and was very depressed. My internet community of IF sisters helped sooooo much - it was so wonderful to have people to "talk" to who knew the right things to say and understood what I was going through. And it helped me to be able to comfort other women who were going through the struggles along with me.
