Regina,

<br />You're going to have to see a sleep specialist for the Valium. My CF team prescribes almost nothing if it isn't to do with my CF directly.

Hi. When I was in college I drank heavily a few times. Frankly, I liked it a lot. It also helped my breathing, made me more relaxed and social. However, I have a somewhat addictive and OCD personality. The fact that I liked getting drunk so much scared the hell out of me. So I stopped drinking altogether in grad school. By the time I was married, a single glass of wine would set off an attack of gout. VERY painful, and your talking to someone who rode horses competitively with rib fractures on both sides. So, I think my last sip of alcohol was in 1998 or so. But I do completely understand where you are coming from. It sounds like you have a lot of tightening in your lung muscles, bronchospasms, and additional pain. When these get really bad for me, I cough so hard that I shatter ribs. I have found that taking hydrocodone occassionally relaxes those muscles and allows me to breathe much better, and prevents the ribs from breaking. But it also has the same danger as alcohol, so be aware of its addictive nature. Running every day has also helped overall with my lungs and sleeping.
