Sense of Smell

Hi,

Do any of you feel like you have lost your sense of smell over the years? Any idea's on how to get it back or what can be done about it?

I have lost my sense of smell and though sometimes it's nice not to be able to smell certain things, I do miss smelling all types of things such as flowers, candles, pop corn, chocolate, frest mown grass, rain, etc. Smells have to be very strong (i.e. gasoline, some air freshners, a few perfumes) before I can smell them.
I don't know how/why I lost mine. I really don't have a history of sinus issues so I don't think that could be it. I asked my doctor once why he thought I lost it & he really didn't have an answer for me. Anyone
else have a clue?

Were the sinuses checked for polyps? I had gotten those, and once they were removed, my sense of smell (and taste) had returned.

The only time I seem to lose those senses is when I got a head cold (like right now!), and once my medications heals my cold, I'm back enjoying my favorite smells of Coffee, and other delicious things. Without those senses, everything tastes bland, and I'd rather eat liver!

I have lots of sinus issues, mostly related to recurring nasal polyps. As a result, my airways are pretty blocked up a large percent of the time, and as I result I breathe through my mouth, not my nose. Even when my airways are clear, I breathe out of my mouth from habit. This definitely has impacted my sense of smell, but when I am cleared out, it does do a little better.

I have lost my sense of smelly several times, usually it's because of an infection in my sinsus.. i know it really sucked.. the one time i lost it for two weeks and iwa s in the florida the whole time.. and i was so sad cause i couldnt' smell any lotions, and i couldn't taste anything that well.. it was like eating texture.. and it was sad... but i have had several other instances where it's just gone and come back weeks later.. but like i said mostly due to infections..
