Sensitive lungs

I read a few years back in a newspaper that wearing perfume is bad for the lungs. They were referring to healthy people wearing perfumes. I like lavendar from essential oils but do not believe this is bad for you. I hardly use it as I only use it to relax me. I play it safe in every area since I am newbie with lungs. Risa

I do take advair, maybe it is asthma related. When I was in my teens my doctor was surprised I didn't have asthma but maybe I developed it. The funny thing is my albuterol makes me cough when I take it. So does my tobi when I first start it. Of course the pulmozyne and hypertonic solution makes me cough because that is what they are designed to do. I guess what I am saying is I cough a lot! But I find certain things will trigger me to cough worse, like other's perfume, cig. smoke and temp change. I asked the Doc about it and he said there is nothing to prevent it. I just have super sensitive lungs.

I find very cold weather gives me a coughing fit, and some strong perfumes make my chest seize up on me. Cigarette smoking doesn't bother me so much, unless I'm standing around it. I can easily pass someone by who's smoking and not really notice the smell.

When my friend Doug was really bad off (low lung %), he was super ultra sensitive to everything, even things that I couldn't detect like fabric softener on clothes. Near the end whenever myself or anyone else with me went to visit him, we had to either not shower (scented soap, non scented soap is fairly hard to find), or use older clothes that had some natural B.O. on them and for sure NEVER use perfume, deodorant, etc. I wish he would have been less messed up lung wise or I knew about oregano oil a long time ago, I bet it would have helped him a ton.

One other thing that gets me to coughing is certain scented candles. I like candles too, but just don't use them much.
Anyone else have this problem?

Scented candles get me too. When I was in my teens-20s I used to be so bummed that incense bothered me so badly. I really loved that stuff but only for like 10 minutes and then I'd blow it out.

Don't you love it when you're in the hospital and one of the tech people (it's always the guy who picks me up for Xrays) comes up to you and all you can smell is the first cover-up layer of cigarette smoke, the second layer of cologne/perfume, and the top layer of winter green gum? They really think they're hiding it? Very silly and really gross.
