Can a cystic fibrosis patient be eligible from a service dog in some way shape or form?
I have 3 dogs myself (2 labs and a shih tzu) and altho they can be wonderful for getting me active and out of bed,when I get sick its hard to take care of them.
With a service dog most of us CFers are pretty capable of doing things that a dog would provide like turning on a light or grabbing the phone or being woken up when strangers come ect, maybe having a service dog around would do more harm then good at times being that they shed.
I suppose I just cant think of what a service dog could offer a CFer since we are able to do most things that a dog provides disabled ppl,and in the event we are to sick to do things and be in a wheelchair and the dog could help a bit we would most likely be in hospital at that point and taking care of a dog at home would be to much trouble because im sure they still need excercised.
I havent heard of a CFer having a servicce dog,hopefully someone can provide more info <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I think that a service dog would depend on a person's particular need, not just that they have CF. About the only thing I can think of would be that you could have one as a therapy dog - that the dog brings you comfort and peace. They have dogs that can do just about everything from helping blind and deaf people, helping wheelchair bound people, detecting seizures before they happen and even helping people with life threatening allergies avoid their food triggers. If a person with CF fits any of those categories (and I'm sure there are more) then sure they could probably qualify.
I once knew an older man with CF and he had a service dog. But he was also blind. He is the only person with CF that I know of w/ a dog.
