Just don't put your hand out and nod your head instead. OR shake the hand but DO NOT put your hands to your face until you wash them or put disinfective gel on.... OR just say I don't like shaking hands, germa phobe and make a joke about it..... I do not like doing it myself, but when I do I just put that gel on my hand right after....<br>

I'm that way when I visit my inlaws church. I usually make sure I'm the first to greet the person next to me by saying good morning or peace be with you and nod my head. and I NEVER shake the pastor's hand when we leave if I can avoid it -- heck, he's shaken several hundred hands before I get thru the line.

Otherwise, I keep hand sanitizer in my purse and use it frequently. I use it several times a day at work as well.

I just wave or hold my hands behind my back. I tell people that I don't shake hands and my immune system isn't very strong. Most people respect me... I have gotten a few funny looks or looks of disgust but those are few and far between. During cold and flu season most people are very respectful of my wishes to not shake hands. Those who I am close to I give them "air hugs" and we giggle about it.

What gets on my last nerve is people who walk up to me in church and just grab me and hug me with out any warning. I am little and people seem to think it is fun to give me a squeeze. Ahhh!!! I don't like to be touched (other than my husband and son) so I get all squirmy.

When I get home for anywhere I change my clothes and wash my hands super well. I carry hand sanitizer with me and know where bathrooms are to wash my hands numerous times while out and about.

If it is someone I don't really know, I usually tell them I have grease/food/etc. on my hands, or that my husband/daughter has a really bad cold that I wouldn't want to pass around (just in case):^) Or, I make sure to have my hands full, full, full so they don't even offer to extend a hand. But then sometimes they reach down and shake my daughter's hand instead!!
