shocked at how people talk to each other on this site

I am not on this web site forum all the time and I do not read every posting. Yet, from some of the ones I have viewed I have walked away with a disgusting feeling based on the way people talk to one another. Often their language is cruel, condescending and demeaning.

I'm all for free speech and standing up for what we believe in and I'm not saying we all have to be "PC", but I don't always find this to be the warmest, friendliest site which is why I don't come here more often. To me, this is sad because this site holds a lot of valuable information and I would like to come here more often, but I just can't stand the cruelty.

We're all unique individuals with different upbringings and beliefs, but we all share in common this tough disease and so why can't we give one another a break and just be more supportive and kind?

It's OK to disagree without calling each other names or attacking one another. Why can't we attack the argument and not the person??

There is no need to call people fascists or morons (i.e. the "Sicko" post) or to attack individuals (this has happened many times with Vampy's posts) if we think they've made poor judgements. It's so draining to be around people who are so cruel.

I do think there are some wonderful and supportive posts on this site and I'd be remiss to overlook that, so please know how appreciative I am for that, but I really find it hard to come here sometimes and I think that is just plain sad.

your over reacting to something that in my eyes is very trivial cf is a difficult thing to live with and of course people are going to get passionate about things that affect their life on a daily basis

To be passionate is ok, but I would say adults should be able to express themselves in a polite manner and accept different opinions, especially on a forum, where everyone has time to think about what he /she is writing....
Sometimes it looks more like some of this weird talkshows<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

First of all lets look at things statistically......

With over 157,000 messages on the forum alone, not counting the blogs I think those posts in ?? are quite a small %.

Granted the ones you mention can be hurtful, seem mean, uncalled for, unjustified and often immature. HOWEVER; anytime you bring in the topics of politics, religion, child rearing etc thrown in with a chronic illness things tend to get more heated/passionate IMHO then the average group with the same topics.

I am not encouraging losing our tempers etc. What I am saying is that I think considering how many people fly thru here daily and post messages that we are pretty darn lucky. You have the same thing outside the virtual world. Some handle situations with no cursing and some dont. That is human nature.

I also think as its been said that we need to decide if the happenings on a site from the World Wide Web are going to impact us so much that we choose to ignore the benefits. Some say get a tougher skin. Some say dont be so cruel.

One thing I can tell you from the ten years of being a member is that chances of these things never happening is impossible. We go thru waves of it. Jeanne/I always kid that its a full moon when issues arise.

Please just take the good and dont take the rest to heart. You cant change it permanently and if that means you dont find us supportive in the grand scheme of things I am sorry to hear this.
