Should I be tested?

Yes Amy I think there is something to the carriers having some CF symptoms. Of course there will be some people that say they r a carrier and have none, but I think there really is a pattern of symptoms of carriers. I had once looked into the few research cases there were in this area, I can't remember, but I think they concluded it was inconclusive to say CF carriers had a mild form of CF of something like that. I think if they really looked hard at the CF gene they may find a lot of asthma people have one of the CF gene. Being a male and only a carrier has been shown to be a cause of sterility (lack of vas defernces). My 4 yr old who is a carrier had a lot of breathing problems when he was younger w/ wheezing and his ped once stated, "Isn't this back a$sward, you have one child with CF and no breathing problems, then another child without CF and breathing problems"
Just my thoughts

I believe they are suggesting a strong correlation between Cf carriers and asthma and digestive issues. We have already gotten Weston tested he is homogenous delta508. My husband's sister and brother were tested. My sister in law has extreme asthma were she takes an inhaler everyday and my brother in law has intestinal problems. Neither of them are carriers though...just my husband.
Neither I nor my husband have yet to have the genetic tests done because we didn't think it was neccesary now that we know what Weston has. My brother and sister have already had their kids. I am very curious to see if either one of them are carriers, but my in laws had such a hard time getting the test done and had to pay. It was kind of rediculous.
I highly doubt that I have CF but maybe it would be a good idea to look into it. Thanks for the advice.

hiii! mild case here! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> i had not had really any digestive probelms before being diagnosed - just constant sinus infections and asthma problems. (I am pancreatic sufficient; thus no digestive problems) as previous posts have said, probably not likely that you have CF...but definitely possible. if insurance covers it, i'd say go ahead and get tested. good luck!
