I think that's fine. Can't you just take out the PICC? I have found that it's so much better to just take the PICCs out at home for my 6 year old. He actually took the last one out all by himself! He undid all the dressing and then just pulled it out. It took awhile but it went fine. Good luck!

OMG....EWWWWWWWWWWW. Lol. No offense to you, great that he can do it, but I could NEVER in a million years. I can barely handle dressing changes without passing out. Was there a nurse when he did that?

They won't let me get it out until they see me...to see that I am improved.

No, there was no nurse there. Well...my mom is a retired nurse so she was there and watched him do it. His last PICC she pulled out in the living room and this one, he just did by himself. The ENT/CF doc were in agreement it could come out and switch to oral abx. He just gets traumatized when someone else does it. So its easier this way for him. I guess it's unique that our docs let us do it at home!

just a side note-i had a bad clot once after a picc removal. NEVER EVER pull a picc out without someone in the medical field with you. You may think its harmless, and everything went fine, thank god it did. But ask Cfers that have been around for a while and sometimes things go wrong. PLEASE-this is not a good idea!
