We just got orders to Barksdale AFB in Louisiana, is anyone familiar with the CF clinic at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center??? Or the area in general?

Well, since nobody is answering.....

I used to travel to Shreveport for work occasionally (GM has a plant there).

I don't know anything about the CF care, but the community is not bad.

It is a 'poor' region and the town is fairly old; but from what I remember Barksdale looked better than average for an older AFB.

There is not a lot to do that I remember finding, other than Bossier City (sister city to Shreveport) has a large casino collection which brings in people. It has been about 5 years since I have been there so things might be somewhat different.

As long as you can take life at a slow pace I think you will be just fine. Plus you will have the resources of Barksdale.

One note: if you have issues with LA State, Shreveport to Dallas is abt 3 hrs by car so you might have a 2nd option.

I live in Southern Louisiana but I have cousins that live in Shreveport. The CF center in Shreveport is a good facility. It is one of two CF centers in Louisiana and since Katrina they have grown in staff, patients, and funding. I do not know much about base life but my understanding is that is a good community. Shreveport has had some revitaliztion with the film industry and gambling (sorry in Louisiana it is called gaming because gambling is illegal). Overall the center provides good care. Good luck with the move.

My wife and I are new to this with our little CFer. We had our first visit at the Shreveport CF center last week and will be back again in August. Our first impression was that the staff really cares about what they are doing and try to answer all questions. We have made many phone calls and have gotten answers pretty quick. So far we are happy with the center. Hope this helps.
