Sick of Crackling Noise

In my teens I remember laying in bed and that's all I could hear was Rice Crispies in my lungs. I would cough and huff and nothing made it go away. I could never get to sleep because it was so annoying. Now I don't seem to experience it much at all. Unless I'm just used to it and I don't even notice it

But from what I remember in nursing school, the crackles are not something that you can clear. It's mucus really deep in the small airways. There's really nothing you can do about it; just sort of have to ignore it the best you can. The clearer the airways though, the less likely you'll hear the sound.

I get crackles when I'm getting sick, and it is a sign for me that I need a clean out. I agree with Leah that the sound is indicative of obstructions in small airways.

While you may not be able to clear them out with sessions of CPT or HS, I would be curious to know if you are doing any physical activity/ exercise. A consistent exercise routine will help you speed up the pace of junk moving in your small airways, will loosen stuff gradually that otherwise would be harder to get out, and will generally improve your lung health. Even if your exercise tolerance is low, you should try to do what ever you can handle, even if its just shorter walks, hopefully building up to more. Running, swimming, and biking are all great.

I had terrible crackles and wheezing noises pre lung transplant.
It especially bothered me at night when I was trying to go to sleep.
So I put a fan on in my room and used it as
"White Noise"

I go so addicted to the fan, I even had it running after tx. Sort of a security blanket. I no longer use it.

My son has an asthma component to his CF. He crackles and wheezes sometimes too. He is on Asmanex twice daily. It really makes a big difference in his breathing. I can't hear him crackling like before he started it. He still does have more trouble at night, but elevating his head helps with that.
