my daughter with CF had cultured H.flu. She had symptoms, she had an ear infections that just would not quit; everytime she'ld come off the antibitoics it would come back. Finally she got swabbed and her cultured came back for H.flu. They put her on augmentim(i think) and she got better. I do not recall her culturing it again after that. But H flu is a common bug which can cause problems with ear infections...thins was a while ago.

DS had h.flu, but usually didn't have symptoms. It went away when he started up zithromax at age 2. Could he be culturing something else as well? Hopefully the augmentin will take care of it, that was usually what ds was prescribed when he had sinus or ear infections.

They have Zeke on IV Rocephin for his H. Flu. He isn't culturing anything else. They've done two respiratory cultures in the hospital.

The Augmentin isn't working on my pneumonia, so they prescribed Bactrim. We'll see how I do. I have a respiratory culture in the works. Should have some results by tomorrow.

H Flu is know to colonize the airways of kids and not cause problems, but it is also know to cause problems in people with COPD...i.e. compromised airways.

H flu was what I cultured for years--when my kids were in that 0-3 age range, I think they gave it to me all the time.

Here is a link to a LONG thread on h. flu in the bronchiectasis r'us forum. Good readings.

Hope you feel better soon.
