Side effects for Vancomycin

<P>I am a 14 year old girl and I was admitted into the hospital 4 days ago and I was given antibiotics. I have had many side effectsbecause of Vancomycin.</P>
<P></P>
<P>-dizziness </P>
<P>-red mans syndrome</P>
<P>-rash</P>
<P>-swollen face</P>
<P></P>
<P>We got these under control with benadryl and tylenol an hour before the IVs but I had a bloody stool this morning. Apparently that is also a side effect but I just want to be sure. It is bright red blood coating my stool. No diarrhea. Have any of you had this?</P>

I can't say for sure it doesn't happen, so while not common it does appear it can happen.

If you are not sure I'd push the nurse to consult a physician.

They should take you off of it NOW! Have your parents or guardian to stop it and change to Zyvox. If you are having that kind of problem, with it. Other things tell them to give you a full 50mg of benedryl, a half before, then have the rate of infuse too 2-3 hrs and ask for promethizene for nausea if you are having issues after the benedryl, it is also a anti histamine. <br>

Bloody stools could be that Vanco is depleting your system of Viatmin K. You should make sure your doctor knows about what is going on. I agree with augiee to try Zyvox I am allergic to Vanco I break out in to sever hives and also get lots of blood in my stools from it. I had blood check and that is how they came to find out I lose a lot of Viatmin K during Vanco, but since switching to Zyvox I no longer have any bloody stools at all. Good Luck and God Speed..
