I had renal failure and ringing in my ears from tobramycin. This happened about 3 yrs ago and i still have the ear problems.. I was in the hosp for 6 wks at that time. I did have a dizzy issue, was told not to drive and had to go for physical therapy specifically for imbalance due to tinnitus (ringing in ears)..
Do your doctors know? I would definitely let them know if they don't. Hope all goes well and you get it figured out.. Let us know ~ <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> joni

Sorry to hear you are going through this. IV Tobra is a meany! I am a speech pathologist and I ran across an article in one of my professional magazines. There is an audiologist in Maryland who I have been in contact with. She is doing some extensive research on Tobramycin and its effects on the inner ear in regards to vertigo, balance, dizziness and other issues. More than just the fact that it is ototooxic. She was very interested in its effects on the overall vestibular sysytem. If I see anything more about it, I will be sure and post it. I am anxious to see how the research has evolved.

I have been on the same combination and always feel really dizzy. If i stand still i could just fall over.

It only lasts whilst i'm on iv's. My hospital gave me some pills to stop it but they completely knodcked me out, i coulvdn't even peel myself off the sofa , so decided it was better to feel weird

Thanks for the replies. I go for my clinic visit next tuesday and I will mention it to the dr. then. I have been off the tobra now for 3 weeks so I am a little concerned that if it is the tobra, then it may be permanent damage. It isn't bad enough to stop me from doing my daily activities, but as I said I don't feel safe driving. And it also seems to be worse the more active I am.

Thanks everyone.
