1. Kylie is 100% correct. Amox is not the same as Augmentin. Amox Clav is Augmentin.
2. Resistance rates to penicillins are EXTREMELY high. As a result, dosing of Amox has risen drastically over the past decade. So side effects are extremely common ....
3. All anbitiocis have the potential to cause intestines to contract more rapidly than they normall would - moving the stool through the intestines faster than it normally would. As you all know, a role of the large intestines is to remove water from the stool. If the stool passes through the intestines too rapidly, not enough water is absorbed and you get diarreah. If stool moves too slowly, too much water is re-absorbed and you have constipation.
4. If you have diarreah, make sure to drink tons of water. PA thrives when you're dehydrated.</end quote></div>
I am taking the Amox Clav (that is also what I took before). I know the last several times, I have taken it, it hasn't really worked for me. The last time I was on it, about halfway through it, they switched me to something else because it wasn't working for me. I told the nurse when she gave me the script that I didn't think it was going to help me, but I would go ahead and try it. I've just never had this strong a reaction to an antibiotic, especially one I have taken in the past. I am going to start on Prednisone today (yippee) for 12 days. Thanks for the info.
Thank you everybody for your responses. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one that's had this happen (lol). Thanks!!
