Hi All:
I have a 9 year old girl with CF and she keeps complaining of a shaky feeling especially when she is hungry. School just started a few weeks ago and I noticed she is also having a hard time concentrating. Do you think this is the beginning of CF related diabetes. I heard one time that CF realted diabetes doesn't occur before the early teen years,( in most cases). Has anyone or their kids been diagnosised with it and were there signs and symptoms that you noticed before. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Amy

There are people diagnosed with cfrd before their teens, I would go ask the dr about it. This seems like it could be the starting of it. Has she lost weight recently? That's also a sign of it. I don't know about the trouble concentrating though. The shaky feeling could be low blood sugar, especially if it goes away with eating.
The test for diabetes includes drinking what tastes like syrupy flat orange soda then testing blood sugar after to see how the body is dealing with the sugar. It's really a simple test, there's also some blood work that can be done, and obviously, just checking blood sugar.

It could be related to meds.

It might just happen to be that she eats shortly after getting a treatment etc.

What I thought of was her using Albeuterol which can give you the shakes & make it difficult to concentrate.

What meds is she on???
