Sinus question....

Okay, my son continuously has blood in his mucus from his nose. Several months ago, when I fist noticed, I took him in to see his pediatrician. At first he was expecting irritation as the culprit, as we use a bulb to suck out ds's nose, but no irritation was found so he suggested that if this continued we would need to see and ENT. Well it has continued and when I brought this up to the doc at clinic, he said that Briceton was too young for an ENT?????? Should I continue to press this issue with the doc at clinic, or just let my son's pediatrician refer me to an ENT? What do you guys think?

Oh and by the way, we have NOT been using the bulb, so I know we aren't irritating his nose.

Too young for an ENT?! Would think that ENTs are used to seeing infants --- especially with the number ones needing tubes in their ears. Wouldn't hurt to ask, especially since CFers tend to have sinus issues. Early on DS had sinus issues -- sinus infections and I was constantly having to suction out his boogies, squirt saline up his nose.

Sometimes if it's drier out or when he starts up tobi, I notice booger production inscrease and sometimes he does have some blood.

Go for the ENT. My 2nd oldest started seeing ours at 10 months old and that was just because she had chronic ear infections. I would use your own judgement as this is your child not the doc's, if you feel that it is necessary, then do it.

Had we not pressed the issue with our second youngest, she would still not be talking now as she had very little oxygen going to her brain because of huge tonsils.

I've always believed in being proactive and trusting mother's intuition. If you think you need to see an ENT. I can't see what age has to do with looking in ears and sinusses.
Ainsley sees and ENT because she has constant sinus congestion. She's never had blood though. That's actually a problem that I have dealt with for years, blood in mucous and constant scabs in my nose. It usually gets worse in the drier months and clears up in the summer.

hanks guys, I brought it back up at clinic this past Thursday and they are going to go ahead with the referral. We are do back at clinic in two weeks, as Briceton was put on antibiotics for sinus issues, so I'm hoping to have the referral in hand at that appointment.

That's the other thing, between clinic and his pediatrician, Briceton is continually put on antibiotics for his sinus's.....and they don't help! Hopefully something will come out of this appointment with the ENT, the blood is really bothering me!

Thanks guys for responding!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

By the way, the reason he said he was too young was because CF related sinus issues don't occur this young. I dunno, but what is seeing an ENT going to hurt!
