Sinus rinse question

Sharon - My son has had 4 surgeries to remove polyps. One time he was 98% plugged on one side. They do unfortunatley come back. After each surgery they do tell you to use just a saline rinse - probably like you got - to keep the nose moist. After his last surgery about 2 years ago - he said he would never do this again - they used packing this time and was older so affected him more. We started doing the Neil Med rinses daily shortly after his last surgery and Boy what a difference it has made! He loves how they make his nose feel and gets rid of all that gunk. He is 11 - I keep boiled water in a jar and he does it all himself. He knows if he misses a day he can tell - so he does them daily. I wash mine in dish water and let air dry upside down. I just wish I would have known about this after his 1st surgery and maybe some could have been avoided. Personally I think he has some polyps again - but as long as he can breath and is feeling good - I'm not going to worry about it. I just hope that your son likes the rinse as well as Tanner does - it helps alot!!

Hi Sharon, If you'd like I can send you a pediatric starter kit. I have three of them and my Anna uses the adult size one. I told her to give the other one to her RA but she didn't, so here it sits. Never used in the box with the sample saline packets. PM me if you would like me to send it to you. Can go to the post office in the AM.

Last night DS kept telling me his nose hurt and he sounded kinda stuffy. Got his sinus rinse ready, but not before he tells me that during nap time he stuck a SPONGE up his nose. Apparently some stuffing from his nap mat. Ugh! He was grinning, so I assumed he was just teasing me. Nope, did the rinse and OUT pops a piece of yellow sponge.

Ugh! Drives me NUTS!

Hi Sharon! Sydney uses the adult and the pediatric but she likes the adult one better and so do I. It holds a lot more saline and it just seems easier to squeeze and empty.

We run them through the dishwasher (sani cycle) then air dry them on a bottle rack...works great!

For what it is worth, Sydney's ENT told me that Nasonex helps shrink polyps and keep them from developing.

Way to go on getting him checked out! Sounds like sinus troubles are really common with CF and often overlooked (like in poor Sydney's case!).

Hugs,
Kelli
