Emily recently had sinus surgery to open up additional spaces in her sinuses and to remove tissue/mucus. No polyps. The ENT thought that he might need to take out her adenoids while he was in there, but they ended up being fine.
So, her surgery was different than your son's. But, I can tell you that her recovery was much better and quicker than I expected. We did not need to stay overnight (They had said that even with the adeniod removal she would probably have gone home) and by bedtime that same night she felt pretty good.
She had some minor pain issues the following day, but they had sent us home with a scrip for pain meds so it was easliy resolved. The biggest issue was the "crusties" that needed to be removed from her nose throughout the next few days (dried blood and mucus). She HATED having me touch it or try to clear it out, so she ended up holding a wet cloth over her nose to "do it herself".
She has not had any congestion since the surgery, she eats better and her voice is not nasal sounding like it was. I'm hoping that this does the trick for a long time to come!

My daughter is 6 and is going to have the same surgery combo at the beginning of august, not really looking forward to it either! She had sinus and adenoid surgery done when she was 4.5 and it took a full week before she was back to normal. The doctor said this next recovery should be a little easier bc her sinuses aren't in as bad of shape at they were the last time. With the first recovery, we had to give her tylenol around the clock for 4 or 5 days because her neck was really sore (called refererred pain) but the recovery wasn't horrible, she never even needed the tylenol with codine. She did lose a little weight but I can't remember how much bc she gained it right back.
Hope the surgery goes really well for both of our kids!
