Sinus Surgery

I dont know what to do. I hate making decisions. If you read my blog you know, but here is a synopsis. I had a CT Scan on friday and the ENT made it up to me whether to have the surgery or not. My septum veers to the left side, leaving only a small space for air and it "s" curves all the way up, not very attractive, but w/e. In addition, I have pretty well developed frontal sinuses for a CFer (go me!), but there wasnt much air flowing through them. And there were no polyps.

I feel like now that I know all of that, I feel better almost. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy, I dont want the surgery, so I feel better. I dont want to be making this decision if I am only so-so. Like maybe wait to have it, but then what if I get sick (they wont be able to do the surgery).

For those that have had the surgery, How did you KNOW? Were you able to breathe through your nose? Did you get head aches all the time? If you decided against the surgery, what happened after that? What color was your mucus from your nose? What was the clincher in your decision? I want to be able to notice a big difference, but now that I am thinking I feel better, will it really make that much difference for me?

Thanks!

My son is only 3 but has had two sinus surgeries already. We didn't have a choice. He was so blocked up that no air was getting through and he was miserable. His ENT said that most CFers' sinus CT's usually look abnormal. He doesn't treat the CT scan, he treats the symptoms. But maybe you've gotten so used to the blocked airways, that you don't realize it could be better? Can you go for a second opinion or ask the CF center about how this may affect your lung health?

My son recovered within hours and had no packing or restrictions.

I had the surgery done about 3 years ago. The doctor didn't really ask me if I wanted it done. He just told me I needed it done. Before the surgery I had sinus infections all the time, and I had pretty bad headaches. My sinuses were pretty bad. After looking at the CT scan the ENT thought I had the surgery done a few times already because of all the scar tissue. Anyways after the surgery I didn't get the headaches and sinus infections for a couple years, but they're back now. The surgery itself wasn't too bad. I didn't have to stay in the hospital. The only side effects I had was a headache for a few days and nose bleeds for a couple days.

I had the surgery a few years ago.
I hate any surgery and didn't want to have it done, but finally decided it was for the best.

I could barely breathe through my nose and my sinuses were almost completely blocked on one side. I was having continual sinus infections which was causing more infection/hemoptysis in my lungs.

I was amazed at how I could BREATHE through my nose after having the packing removed after surgery. I'm so glad I had it done. I have to work at keeping them open now (allergy meds/shots, nasal rinses, etc.), but my sinuses are much better.
