Sinus surgery?

Since December, I've had horrible migraines and sinus issues, one after the other.Irealized today that I spent the majority of February on strong antibiotics for my sinuses. I went to the ENT today and he did a CT scan and told me that 7 of my 8 sinuses were inflammed. He suggested the sinus surgery to me. He was surprised I've never had it before because of my CF and the fact that I'm 32.
I'm considering doing this. I was wondering what your experiences are?

I've had two. One in 03 to make a way for an abscess to get out. That was pretty bloody. Make sure u get a vit k supplement from ur doc b4 surgery so u won't bleed as bad. Or just have them run a vit k level on u n c if u clot good. Had another one in 07. Thought I had fungus growing but I didn't. It came back as debre ???? He took some tissue out to make my sinuses drain better. My doc called it windows. It really helped me! After I had that surgery my doc said I could take nebulized antibiotic treatments and the anti would really get up in my sinuses. That has been great! Like right now I have this little device n I take it every other month. I sniff betamethasone (steriod to open my nasal pass)for like 4 mins then Tobi for 4 mins. It's best if u clear ur sinuses w hypertonic saline first. Pollen is real bad now in mid tenn where I live. My doc. Dr James Duncavage is one of the best sinus surgeons in the U.S. he's at Vanderbilt.

It was great. I just got mine done last fall after a 20 year break. Overall it is a pretty simple procedure (you can usually go home the same day) and one of the nice benefits I noticed was that my lungs are in better shape, especially with colds (less long term congrestion). Healthy sinuses = healthy lungs. Totally worth it.

what are your sinus symptoms that require surgery? i know i don't have the best sinuses, but i do saline rinses daily and i think that holds me up pretty well.

My daughter has had numerous sinus surgeries and she always can breathe so much easier afterwards!!! She sleeps better, eats better, and feels better. I remember one time the next day she looked at me with a puzzled look and said "Mommy and can breathe through my nose." She was 5 then. I say worth it!!

DS started having issues this past year and was doing a lot of mouth breathing, snoring, restless sleeping, couldn't breathe thru his left nostril and we were concerned with polyps, etc. Took him to an ENT who indicated his nose was very inflammed. Ordered a CT scan and in the meantime had him start using a nasal steroid. It actually helped him asap. His sinus CT indicated sinus disease of the maxilary, ethmoid sinuses, but being the nasal spray is working, we're just going to continue to monitor it for the time beaing.

I just recently went to the ENT and I am going to have surgery in may. I am looking forward to it and kind of nervous too. My dad (not a cfer) had sinus surgery and had lots of complications so he doesn't want me to do it. I just want to feel better and not feel so crappy EVERY day.

My 6 y.o. just had her first sinus surgery last week. She had been having issues with polyps for almost a year and it was getting to the point that she couldn't breathe out of her her nose at all. She also had junky lungs, so her pulm. decided to do a bronch and insert a PIC for antibiotics and called her ENT to see if he wanted to go ahead with the sinus surgery since she'd already be out. They did it all at one time! ENT took out her adenoids because they were enlarged, shaved her ethmoid a bit to make the maxillary and frontal cavity larger, and scraped out (do excuse this) what he said looked like "mayonaise" because the mucus had been clogged so long due to the polyps. Her pulmonol. did the bronch. and then they inserted the PIC. It took maybe an hour. She felt pretty bad that day, but her ENT had her on tylenol with codiene and I didn't catch it until 2 doses were given. I talked to the attending and told her that she had a bronch., had CF, and most likely needed to cough and to please find something that wasn't such a suppressant for her pain. She actually did much better on ibuprophen and felt much better the next day. She said "I can BREATHE!!" She's doing home IV's, now and she sounds SO much better.
