Sister not doing good

My sister has been in the hospital now, going on her 2nd week with her bowels blocked. She is 34, seems like her CF has recently kicked in. They are waiting and tring to get her bowels to move before surgery. They said she would have 50 50 chance. She is also fighting an infection in her lungs, she has a pick line in now. Also they said her liver was B stage. Anyone had or know someone that has been through this kind of surgery?

Surgery to unblock her bowels

I had a bowel resection to remove a blockage. I have Crohn's disease, my son has CF. The surgery was considered an emergency and so the doctors never attempted to remove the blockage "naturally", with laxatives. The surgery was very successful, it was painful but morphine helped. I have a scar about 7inches vertically on my abdomen. If your sister currently has lung infection I can understand why they would use surgery as a last resort. Recovering from major surgery while fighting infection is difficult. I am sorry she is having a hard time. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback, Glad you came through it,
Sister called last night said that they were going to do surgery this evening, so we loaded up and went to Nashville this morning, but they put it off, they wanted to try one other option. She dosen't look good, hasn't ate in two weeks. They are feeding her through a tube.
It's hard watching someone you love start turning for the worst. She has done so well till about this past year. She started having sugar problems then got the infection in her lung, and on top of that her bowels are block.
Growing up she use to get sick alot. My mother was over protective of her, she never got to go out and play all day in the snow.
She was had a job since high school. The doctor told her he thought she was a good candidate to get disability. Is it hard for people with CF to get this?

Troy, I have a word document prepared for CFers regarding SSA SSDI (which is disability based on work history) and SSI (based on total family income- not relating to work history). If you are interested inthe specifics, please email me at division902@hotmail.com
