Skin cracking in fingers

So I started Voriconazole a month ago and have noticed that my whole body is extremely dry. My hands, my lips. Another interesting thing I have noticed that at the tip of my finger nails, the very end of my fingers, my skin is cracking. It is ONLY on my right hand, and it is very painful...sometimes bleeding. Its hard to type and do a lot of other things.

Does anyone know what this could mean? Anyone else have this issue? I get very dry lips on Zyvox too, but it could very well not be related at all...I have NO idea. The skin on the tips of my fingers is also peeling very badly too. Lotion doesn't really seem to help. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> Just wondering if anyone else has this problem, please let me know. Thanks. I have clinic this week and will be mentioning it, but if I have other people's experiences that may help my case.

Caitlin,

I've had this problem the last couple of winters (not this year when it never got very cold in VA). When I googled it, trying to figure out what would help, I discovered it appears to be a fairly common problem. I buy that liquid bandage stuff (mine is just a generic brand), and it makes it less painful for those several days it takes those finger cracks to heal.

Of course, it would be better to find a way to avoid having the problem, but I haven't been successful at that. I imagine it's just from the dry skin the medicine is giving you. Strange that it's just on one hand, though--is that because you use your right hand for something that causes the dry skin to be worse (like alcohol swabs)?

Please let me know if you find a solution. That is such a painful little annoyance!

I don't have CF but do have terribly dry/cracking skin at times - yes, to the point of bleeding. I've found that Cetaphil cream (not the lotion) works really well. I wash my hands a lot...but am also prone to drier skin.
