Grant is 2 and is having some skin issues. His skin is dry, red and has a pimple like appearance, Especially on his face. I've been using eucerin ointment but it hasn't seemed to help much. Any suggestions would be great. It just looks irritated all the time. Is this a cf thing? Thanks

DS has issues not with dry skin, but with what we believe is milia. Sometimes I use some of my facial scrubs, toner or cleansers just to see if it might help.

I've taken him to the dermatologist twice -- once he was prescribed a cream commonly used for roseaca (sp) and the last time retin A. Neither has helped and I need to take him back; however, the last dermatologist, without examining him said they could pierce his skin with a scalpel and remove the kernels of keratin, which needless to say freaked out DS. So I need to find a different, more experienced dermatologist.

It's worse in the summer and I notice it more when he's been outside in the warmer weather. Assume it has to do with sweating out more salt. I just worry that he could end up with scars although the dermatologist insists that won't happen with milia. But what if it's NOT milia.

Hi,
My ds has really dry skin and what I think is keratosis pilaris on his face as well as on the back of his arms and sometimes his legs. They are rough spots that are raised but they do not have fluid in them necessarily, just bumpy. We have always been told it is dry skin caused. We use Cetaphil cream on his body but it doesn't help. I think VaniCream has worked better but I often forget to get it! I think exfoliating is the best thing but I have yet to meet a child who likes that process <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> We have been to most kinds of doctors but never a dermatologist. I know the only recommendation we get is to moisturize. It is sad because it doesn't really seem to get much better no matter what I have tried. Maybe it's not a CF thing, but common in fair skinned children? Just a thought.
Good luck and let me know if you find something that helps!

thanks for the responses. I've been debating to take him to a dermatologist. He has had a rough few months with respiratory issues but I think I'll try to make him an appt soon. Thanks again

DS' pediatrician and cf doctor both brought it up a couple years ago, but weren't sure how to treat it or what it actually was, so I made the dermatologist appointment. Unfortunately the first appointment was with a PA, who didn't have a clue and the 2nd one was with a very young, inexperienced dermatologist who didn't have a clue and didn't even look.

It takes FOREVER to get into the derm clinic, so I need to make an appointment. I've joked that I'll just take DS to the medispa with me and get his and hers facials. He thinks it's cool when I put a clay mask on him or use a facial scrub.

can't remember the details but may be a relationship between skin issues and since deficiency. may talk with cf doc about a trial of zinc supplementation?
