Hey i haven't been on for a while.

I was just wondering if people with CF can go sking? i would like to go but not sure as the altitude would mean less oxygen right? it's hard enough now trying to breath though my lung fuction is 74% which is not too bad as it has been worse.

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks Hannah 16w/cf<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I went skiing several times when I was a teenager. Only reason I stopped is that I was terrible at it. As long as you can handle it, you can ski. If you're unsure, try it once. Obviously it will tire you out, but if it's fun enough to deal with that and go anyway every once and a while... do it.

i just got back from 2 days of snowboarding and i would say DO IT! DO IT!

it's such a great form of excercise, especially for CFers!

one tip i would have: bring water and snaks with you. the high altitude, lack of food plus dehydration got to me the first day and i had a gnarly headache. by the second day i remembered TO EAT and DRINK and we didn't stop all day.

have fun!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Skiing at altitude is harder for everyone. You won't hurt yourself by trying... if the first run wipes you out, then maybe you spend a lot of time in the lodge. If you can do it, enjoy it! Especially at altitude, how good a time you have will be determined by how in shape you are... out of shape people who don't have CF would be struggling too.

Also, in the US, altitude is really only a problem out west (CO, UT, etc)... east coast skiing is at much lower altitude, and it wouldn't make a difference. As was said before, everyone at altitdue will dehydrate much faster than at sea level. I have skied out in CO twice, and both times found I had to drink upwards of 3 times my normal intake to stay hydrated. I definitely got tired faster out west, but had a great time.

Go for it!!!!
