hey guys.

I know there have been just some general mentions about people staying at other people's houses...maybe friends', boyfriends' or girlfriends', whatever. How do you do it with all the treatments? I know a good thing to do is to do everything before you go out or do whatever you've got planned, but what if it's unexpected? There are many times when my boyfriend and I get together early on in the daytime and end und up being at his house or just out very late. His parents always tell me I'm more than welcome to stay if I don't want to drive home from being so tired and I'd love to, but I'm always worried that if I don't have my vest or something, I'll feel so crappy in the morning. Also, I'm going on Pulmozyme soon so that's another addition to the regimen...I can't cart my vest and aerosol around with me everywhere. What do you guys do when faced with these situations?

I actually have two nebulizers (one is really really old, big and clunky, but still works). The new one is at my house. The old one stays at Mike's. They also have a set of the neb cup pieces, and I keep a few spare Pulmozyme in their fridge.

As for therapy, Mike does it for me, so whenever I stay with him, it's not at all an issue.

I know this doesn't much help you if you can't afford a second nebulizer, or because you have the Vest. But if you really don't want to go back home, have your boyfriend beat you, perhaps?

i also have two nebulizers -- i keep my small, travel TREK at my boyfriend's house and have my old one at home. you should look into getting a travel nebulizer maybe. they are nice to have reguardless. my insurance paid for it because it had been over a certain number of years since they bought the other one.

that said, i still cart my flutter, vitamins, oregano, and stuff around. i guess that stuff is all pretty small and portable though.

good luck!

We actually have three nebulizers -- a pulmo aid we use regularly at home, a pari that used to be our regular compressor, but we now just use when we travel and my inlaws have an old pulmo aid that used to be a cousins who outgrew her asthma -- that one we use at the summer lake home and when the inlaws babysit. What I did years ago before my transplant, I would train my boyfriend how to do CPT. I would practice huff coughing and brought my jump rope and go out and workout and then huff. Taking your neb in the car with you for Just in Case and there is always the travel along cooler you can keep your pulmo real cool.

It is amazing what pwcf have to do to stay healthy but in the long run it is all worth it.

I feel if one is serious and wants to get into a relationship being honest with your friends is important. If they canot accept you for the whole package then they are not the friend for you.

I would also bring a plastic garbage bag so you can put all your tissues and throw it away.

People will admire you for what you have to bring and also how you present yourself to the world. Look at me, nothing will stop me attitude

I just used to cart them around with me everywhere. So I guess that doesn't help much.
But, I think it is a good idea to get your 'significant other' used to clapping you. And learn how to do it the right way. Even friends-you'd be surprised to see that many people don't mind too much, even are interested in it.

When my husband and I were dating years ago, I knew we'd turned a corner when one day when I got home he was there with table set, dinner all cooked for me, and his toothbrush and nebulizer in the bathroom.

(Obviously, we had discussed these things before, but he was a bit gunshy still from his last divorce.)

Dinner was nice. Seeing the toothbrush was nice.
But my goodness, seeing the nebulizer just made me smile and smile and smile!

I know when I used to stay over at boyfriend's places, I would keep extra medications there like enzymes or insulin. As for physio I would just bring my flutter. I guess I've been lucky that I've never been on extended treatments when I was with somone, and when I was on a week of treatments, my guy would come to my place to spend nights. All my treatments were non-nebs, so I didn't have to worry about it.
