SLEEPING

Tobi makes me cough something horrible... mostly spasms. I try not to do my lung treatments past 4pm. That way most of my coughing before bedtime arrives-- this is what my doctor recommended.

I cough most night for short period of time (hubby says I sleep through most of it).

IgE stands for immunoglobulin E and it is an antibody present in all people. It plays a very big role in the way your body responds to an allergen. Have you ever been diagnosed with ABPA? This is an IgE mediated disease/response that many people with Cf suffer from.

The first thing to do is to get that fungus under control! Find out what is growing in there and how much so that you can begin to understand what you need to do to fight it. Yeast and fungus in the lungs further compromise your lungs and make it virtually impossible to fight pseudo bc of the inflammation that occurs with fungal infections. So, then you are prescribed a steroid to control inflammation by turning off your immune response which just allows for the fungus to grow more, but gives you a haitus from the symptoms. This is good and bad...

Diet plays a MAJOR part in fighting fungus. First of all, are you on a probiotic? That will help get the gut more stabilized which in turn will help with the inflammation in your lungs. If you can cut out all flour, wheat and sugar for one week. I SWEAR if you can do this for one week, the sugar that is feeding the fungus is cut off. Fungus cannot live without SUGAR! All fungus..very interesting how they grow. I know it sounds drastic, but really diet can make a huge difference in how your body fights. For added calories since you are taking away wheat, eat more olive oil, almond butter, avacado, yogurt with almond oil in it, salmon... macadamian nuts, olives...
Start eating everything green you can get your hands on...GREEN=alkaline environment=bacteria, fungus can't proliferate.

Add a magnesium supplement to your daily mix of pills. Magnesium relaxes airway muscles, can make pseudo less resistant and will help keep your bone density healthy.

Quit eating anything with added yeast (bread).
Peanut butter is really a no-no since it is laden with mold spores...

Also, see an allergist if you think you have allergy induced asthma. There is a great drug called xolair that you can take if you meet the criteria. It is a shot that inactivates IgE so that your body can't create the allergic cascade that causes so many reactive airway problems. They are now using this drug for ABPA in cystic fibrosis and it is life-changing! I am on it and it is a miracle drug for me. I don't culture yeast or fungus anywhere, but I still react to molds...

I know this all sounds like a lot. If some one had told me all this 6 years ago I would have told them to go jump in a lake. But, I lived it and came through it basically bc of diet and education. Docs are AWESOME, but they don't have the time to look into healing yourself with food... You are lucky bc you can!!
