the couple times i've had pneumonia i was hospitalized. one time i was feeling absolutely terrible, low O2 sats, fever, bad pain, etc. and the other time i had similar symptoms as your son. both times i was admitted for at least 1 weeks to get IVs started and make sure everything was ok and i was responding to the meds, then i went home and finished the last 1.5 weeks of IVs at home.

I would think that they will watch him closely. If the oral antibiotics don't kick in quickly, they'll probably want him in-patient. I think the thing to keep in mind is to minimize any lung damage that can come, since it will be permanent. And they'll likely want to have a daily listen to his lungs. I hope you don't have to go in-patient but if you do, I hope its quick.

Well, we DID get an admit. So we are finishing day 7 and hoping to go home to finish the course tomorrow. So much cabin fever.
He's totally lost his appetite and I hope to fatten him up once we get home.
Thanks for the advice. Fingers crossed to go home!

Please realize that the meds might be taken away some of his appetite so dont get totally discouraged.

Hope he is home soon....
