I have followed some of the yeast/candida threads, but perhaps not as closely as I should have. Forgive my ignorance, but if you cut out sugar, wheat, dairy, & gluten, what in the world do you eat?

Also, as far at cutting carbs - is it all carbs? or just simple carbs, and upping complex carbs (fruits, veggies, etc)? I'm also curious b/c I need a lot of carbs for triathlon training, so I don't think this would work for me anyway, but really curious as to what you are allowed to eat.

Also, as far as cutting out dairly - do you take calcium supplements? I know getting calcium, etc. from it's original source/food is supposed to be better than supplements, but I guess if you cut out dairy, supplements are better than nothing.

Thanks in advance; look forward to learning more about this

I'd also be curious on how to get 3000 plus calories a day on this type of diet, I guess one could just take a hit short term while fighting the yeast overgrowth, but eventually you would need to add back in some things I would assume.

fyi. Greens are actually pretty good in calcuim when taken in large amounts like in a green smoothie.

I haven't really cut out my dairy...I figured I would if I had too, but still need to keep those calories.

I am only doing this short-term to get rid of the yeast, and I will slowly start re-introducing foods after a few weeks. I can't afford to not get my 3000 calories a day either

In the mean time I am eating a TON of meats and I am adding butter to everything I am eating.

the strictest phase if one were to follow that would be only meat, eggs, veggies, and yogurt.

Then you add back in foods that are lower in carbs and still complex such as melons and berries, limited amount brown rice, etc. Then you add back in things that hae higher carbs and/or higher allergen potential. Lastly you re-introduce the typical junkier foods in moderation and see how your candida does.

I am having trouble, ok failing miserably, at the progression toward normal eating.

Sorry I have no advice on getting in the extra calories, not because I dont think it could be done but because I am PS I have not experimented. I think there was someone here that had two lung transplants that ate this way normally? I know Mandy Dramamama does this routinely and does well.

The candida cleanse program will vary depending on teh book/website but its all about eating unrpcoessed foods and starting off with a 3-4 week phase of very low sugar to starve the candida and kill them off.

Also as an aside milk while loaded with calcium is poorly absorbed by many, not just lactose intolerant but those who have a hard time absorbign fat as well.

Food Amount Calcium (In mg)
Yogurt, plain, low fat 8 oz 415
Skim milk 1 cup 306
Spinach, frozen, Boiled 1 cup 291
Yogurt,plain,whole milk 8 oz 275
Cheese food, pasteurized American 1 oz 162
Cottage cheese,1% milk fat 1 cup 138
Baked beans, canned 1 cup 154
Oranges 1 cup 72
Trail mix (nuts, seeds, chocolate chips) 1 cup 159
Almonds 1 oz (24 nuts) 70
Black eye peas, boiled 1 cup 211
Green peas, boiled 1 cup 94

As far as green go here is what I have found:

Best sources: collard greens, bok choy, kale, turnip greens, mustard greens, broccoli, dandelion greens

Good sources, but not as easily absorbed: parsley, chard, spinach, raw dark green lettuce

On a similar idea, I once tried the PH Miracle diet. Once again, it was impossible to keep my calories high enough. However, I think this kind of diet is ideal for optimum health (for non-CF'ers)
