Daddy2Noah........I agree, I have been trying to concentrate on my very much living, extremely busy, and interested in learning and doing "everything", 4 year old. My goal is to keep him healthy with his treatments to maximize his life. His CF-ENT Specialist told us that with his age......and recent advances in CF with gene identification, he believes our son with live a normal life at some point.
My 4 year old son was diagnosed a month ago. He had repeated sinus infections since Sept. He is on ADEKs daily, Prevacid daily, Albuterol and The Vest 2X a day. Also nettie pot 1 to 2 times a day. Should he be on anything else? What is RSV and Synagis?? Should I ask my doctor about them or are they a case specific type med?
Thanks for any info
Doreen, mom to Dominic age 4, diagnosed 11/21/06

Doreen,

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is a respiratory virus, similar to a cold in adults, but can get very serious in infants and preemies. It causes a lot of mucus and can require hospitalization. It's pretty serious for little ones or especially an infant with CF. My son had it at age 3 months and wound up on a ventilator in the PICU.

Synagis is a series of shots, one a month for the entire cold/flu season, that helps protect against RSV. Its usually given to preemies, or babies with CF or other lung problems, for the first year. Sometimes they will get it the second year too.

I guess its because little babies have little airways that could easily get clogged up. I think at age 4 your son should be just fine! I had it when my son did, for me it was just a cold. His cousin had it at the same time (she's the same age) and was hospitalized for 4 days, for IV fluids and suctioning.

Anyways, I was reading the thread and figured I'd answer that for you. I wouldn't worry about though!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
