So Vinny has a cold

It seems to be your normal cold, its only been since Sat.
He has a lot of clear nasal discharge, which is odd for him, he never gets runny noses when sick. I think that is what is actually making him cough. And his eyes are really teary.

Do any of you ever give your children something to relieve the symptoms? Currently we're just increasing duoneb/vest and doing all his regular meds, plus atrovent nasal spray to try and dry out the nose a bit.

Edited to add: He doesn't seem too uncomfortable, but his sleep is really getting interrupted by the coughing and not being able to breathe out of his nose.

We were told not to use any OTC methods -- no decongestants, etc. So we usually let ds play in the tub or shower before bed to steam out his nose. Use Johnson's Menthol baby bath.

He started doing nasal rinses last year when he was 4, but prior to that (since he was a baby), I'd use saline nasal spray and the dreaded bulb syringe to suck out the boogies.

DS' started developing a cold this weekend and when he started coughing the other night I went and got his sippy cup with the straw and got him a drink of ice water, which seemed to help a bit.

This helps my daughter sleep much better when she is congested and also helps clear out the mucus before it can drain down into her chest. The increased vest treatments will help keep it out of his lungs too.

I wouldn't use anything that dries up his nose bc that may cause an infection, instead you should try to clean out his nose (saline).
