Pay has practice today at 4:30 and its going to be 104 outside and I checked the air quality and its unhealthy for sensitive group. Everywhere around use if unhealthy for everyone. So I called the coach to see if he was going to cancel practice and he said no. All he does is run the kids and Pay is not keeping up with them by the end of practice and he pulled me to the side and said he is getting woried that Pay wont be able to keep up in a game. DUh stupid you are running him in the heat games are in mornings and its cooler. Do I just keep him home or do I let him go? I know he wont be able to keep up. I have told the coach how I feel and he hasnt done anything about it. I even asked if we could have practice at 5:30 instead of 4:30 and I told him about a park that is shaded and he wont listen to anything I say. What do I do? Sorry I think this is more of a rant. Would you take your kid to practice?

I would not take my kids to practice. And if it is a weather advisory out then I think the coach should respect that and cancel practice. Especialy since they are just kids. Why would he want to risk the kids getting dehydrated or sick or go into shock from the heat. This is just my opinion though.

Do you have the option to pick a different program?

My son plays competitive soccer (12yr old) on a traveling team, and even his coach recognizes that when it is hot or the air is bad (we live in Atlanta) that practice has to be scaled back.

There is no excuse at 6 for them to be pushed that hard. It is supposed to be fun at that age, not torture.

I honestly would try to find another program/coach or help Pay find a different sport he might be interested in.

I agree that changing teams would be a good option to look into. You need to have people around you that are willing to listen and work with you. If changing teams is not an option what about rallying the other parents to your cause? I am sure other parents would see the benefits of shaded practices and later times for the health of their children.
